Please sign the open letter! This campaign to make Vice Chancellors elected is exactly what we need to claw back the university from the clutches of marketisation.
Reading people, if you are concerned about the future of our struggle, please join us at 13:00 for the EGM and vote for change at our branch. Current student numbers do not justify the proposed cuts to terms and conditions, which appear to be unmatched in UK HE.
Why are RUCU members being asked to vote on a deal which contains unnecessary cuts to staff? The required savings stated in the “Final Proposal” – to be paid for by wage cuts and changes in terms and conditions – are £5 million more than the figure the RUCU President’s blog suggests was agreed upon by the consultation group. For reference, £5 million represents almost 1/3 of the proposed savings from the tiered pay cut.
